Worth the Fall by Claudia Connor

Worth the Fall
by Claudia Connor

Worth the Fall (The McKinney Brothers, #1)

4.5 Stars

Worth the Fall made me melt.  I swooned over this story.  Between a sexy Navy SEAL and a bunch of adorable little kids, my heart was done for.

Worth the Fall centers around Abby Davis and Matt McKinney.  Navy SEAL Matt is spending the week at the beach to help his cousin with a girl.  Out for an ocean swim, Matt runs into the Davis family.  He can’t help but be drawn to this family of 6 year old Addie, five year old Jack, three year old Gracie, 2 year old Charlie and their beautiful 6 months pregnant mother, Abby.  Matt is definitely smitten with the kids and is very attracted to the very strong and independent mother of 4.

Abby lost her husband 6 months ago and now is trying to give her kids a memorable vacation at the beach.  Abby is used to being alone, growing up in foster care, then marrying a man that was never around, she has become comfortable alone.  When her kids attach themselves to Matt, Abby tries her hardest not to get attached herself.  What can really happen when they only have a week at the beach?

Feelings between Abby and Matt grow fast and deep, what neither of them expected was how much it was going to hurt once their week was over and they had to go their separate ways.

Seriously, the scenes between Matt and kids killed me!  These poor little kids were just looking for a male role model in their life. Matt was so sweet and caring and gave each of the kids the attention they needed.

Worth the Fall will capture your heart and won’t let it go till the last page.  These characters are very easy to fall in love with.

Rival by Penelope Douglas

Rival
by Penelope Douglas

Rival (Fall Away, #2)

5 Stars!

Rival was intense and hot and angsty, but all in the best way possible.  I loved this book!!!  I was completely hooked from page one, I couldn’t put it down.  I think there was at least three times that I yelled OMG while reading.  Rival was full of twist and turns and none of them I saw coming.  It definitely kept me on my toes.

Rival focuses on stepsiblings Madoc and Fallon, both love to hate each other.  I’m not going to go into the story because I want everyone to discover it for themselves. Rival was nothing like I expected it to be.  I thought we would get the fun, easy going, sarcastic Madoc from Bully and Until You but we get a different side of him in Rival.  He was angry, even cruel at times, but he was also damn sexy! Penelope Douglas definitely amped up the heat in this book.  It was HOT!!!

Rival is book 2 in the Fall Away series and the characters I first fell in love with, Tate and Jared are back and around a lot.  I loved that we get to see how their relationship has grown and what is going on in their life too. Jax, Jared’s brother is also a dominate character in Rival. There is so much more story to that kid and I can’t wait to find it all out in Falling Away.

Rival is a great addition to one of my favorite series!

Beyond Shame
by Kit Rocha

Beyond Shame (Beyond, #1)

All Noelle Cunningham has ever wanted is a life beyond–beyond the walls of Eden, where only the righteous are allowed to remain, and beyond her stiflingly restrictive existence as a councilman’s daughter. But only ruins lie outside the City, remnants of a society destroyed by solar storms decades earlier.
The sectors surrounding Eden house the corrupt, the criminal–men like Jasper McCray, bootlegger and cage fighter. Jas clawed his way up from nothing to stand at the right hand of Sector Four’s ruthless leader, and he’ll defend the O’Kane gang with his life. But no fight ever prepared him for the exiled City girl who falls at his feet.
Her innocence is undeniable, but so is their intense sexual attraction, and soon they’re crossing every boundary Noelle barely knew she had. But if she wants to belong to Jas, first she’ll have to open herself to the gang, to a dangerous world of sex, lust and violence. A world where passion is power, and freedom is found in submission.

The Trap
by Beverley Kendall

The Trap (Trapped, #0.5)

Looking back, I should have seen it coming.

Paige didn't like that I went so far away to university. But it was going to only be for two years. She'd join me after she did her two years at community college. I thought we could swing that no problem. We were solid.
But she hated the distance. She hated not seeing me every day. She complained that I didn't come home enough. She hated that for months on end, texting and phone calls were our only form of communication. It wasn't enough.

Devour Me by Kailin Gow Taryn Cummings could not believe she was accepted into the prestigious International Institute of Culinary Arts culinary institute she dreamed of studying at in beautiful Paris, France. It was a far cry from her unglamorous life back home in New York where she helped her mother run their small family-owned restaurant called Sam's. The Institute churned out the top chefs in the world, including the wildly sexy and eccentric Master Chef, Errol King, whose celebrity personality was larger than life. She wanted excitement in a city of romance and thrills, but arrived to find her apartment barely livable and herself in need of a suitable place to stay. A chance meeting at the Institute brings her face-to-face with her new roommate...the devilishly charming Errol King, who would be guest teaching her class this term. The attraction is as hot as the fire they cook with, and while Errol King, the notorious bad boy chef with an attitude, can get anyone he wanted into his bed, he wanted this woman more than anything. Something about her sweet innocence and sad eyes reach into his harden heart, but is it enough for him to forget his past?

Vital Sign by J.L. Mac My world was perfect, until it wasn’t. I fell fast and hard straight into the fiery pits of hell, my past a bittersweet torture that never went away; the sadness, eating away at my soul. My life is empty. No meaning. No hope. No vital sign. *** Despite her general indifference to organ donation, Sadie sets out to heal by finding those who benefited from her husband’s tragic death, but instead of peace, finds only jealousy and rage. Though Sadie hates Alexander McBride for his health, he soothes her grief in ways that are intoxicating; addictive even. Can she learn to love the man who now owns the heart that used to beat just for her? If she has any hope of overcoming her all consuming grief, he must convince her that it still does.

Searching for Moore by Julie Richman I lost the love of my life when she disappeared without even a goodbye. It was the 80’s – there was no internet, no Google, no cell phones. If you wanted to disappear, you could. And she did. She crushed my soul. A friend just told me he saw her on Facebook. And now I’m a keystroke away from asking her the question that’s haunted me for two decades. “Why did you leave me?” Sexy entrepreneur Schooner Moore receives the birthday bombshell of a lifetime - his true love, college girlfriend Mia Silver, the girl who broke his heart when she fled without even a goodbye at the end of their freshman year, has been seen on Facebook. Now 24 years later, Schooner discovers the truth behind what drove Mia from him as he tries to once again win her love.

Gemini by Penelope Ward Diner waitress Allison had no idea her mundane life was about to dramatically change the day she serves a devastatingly handsome customer. After he abruptly leaves the restaurant, she can’t get him out of her head. She has no idea that he had actually come on a mission to find her. Cedric wasn’t expecting to fall in love at first sight with the pretty waitress he’d set out to find. In fact, she was the last woman on Earth he should be having feelings for. Before revealing himself, he makes her believe their meetings are coincidental. Cedric’s lies and secrets are finally revealed, changing both of their lives forever.

Angel After Dark by Kahlen Aymes Gorgeous, hotshot executive, Alexander Avery, is all business and doesn’t believe in love. He bases his relationships on mutual convenience and makes no apologies for his lifestyle or his choices. When his on-the-way-out girlfriend calls into a late night radio program to whine about his treatment of her, he is angrier at the host’s advice, than the inconsequential woman’s bitch-fest. Psychologist Angeline Hemming has little tolerance for bullshit, so when Alex calls into her show a week later to give his side of the story, she calls him out on his excuses, and um… habits. When they finally meet, their sexual chemistry and mental connection leaves them both reeling, as they take their fight… to the mattresses! Belong to You by Vi Keeland My honeymoon was almost everything I dreamed it would be; a tropical paradise, turquoise water, romantic walks on the beach, and loads and loads of mind shattering sex. The only thing missing was the groom. After seven years of coasting through a relationship with Michael, my senses were numb. A week of passion with a stranger was just what I needed to clear my head and take back control of my life. But how do you move on when the man that was only supposed to be a fling somehow seeps into your soul and steals your heart?

Lux

One of my all-time favorite series is the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout.  There is a total of 5 books in the series and each book is full of humor, sass, action, romance and aliens.  The series is young adult paranormal and it’s amazing!!!

The series starts out with Katy moving to West Virginia her senior year of high school.  This is where she meets her neighbors Daemon and Dee Black, who just happened to be aliens.  No big deal right, wrong! Katy becomes friends with Dee and hates Daemon. Daemon is the sexy alien bad boy that is a major smart ass.  This is just a small description of how the series starts.  The story and characters continue to grow as the books go along and the series gets better and better with each book.

Prima Donna

Prima Donna

Published Date: 9/23/14
Pages: 316

4 Stars
I really enjoyed Prima Donna.  It was a sweet love story with a lot of heart.  This is the second book by Laura Drewry that I’ve read and I am now definitely a fan of her writing.  Prima Donna is a companion novel to Plain Jayne, which was also just as good.  What I really like about Laura’s stories is that there isn’t any over the top drama and the relationships/romance builds slowly.  No instant love, but they actually get to know each other and become friends too along the way.  I’m not trying to say this book was boring because it wasn’t at all.  It held my attention the whole time and kept me wanting to read more.

Prima Donna is about Regan Burke and Carter Scott.  We first meet both in Plain Jayne, Regan is Jayne’s good friend and Carter is friend/cousin to Jayne and Nick.  I really like Regan; she was strong, independent and a little stubborn.  She never had an easy life, dealing with a mother that was never the kind of mother she should have been.  Regan has worked hard to run her own beauty salon, but when her landlord decides to sell the building her salon is in, Regan is forced to close up shop.  Now facing not being able to pay her bills and her mother’s medical expenses, Regan not sure what she is going to do.

Pediatrician Doctor Carter Scott is a playboy.  He goes from one girl to the next, never wanting to put down roots, either with a girl or in his job.  I loved Carter from the start, he was funny, sweet, and I melted whenever he interacted with the children in the hospital.  Plus, he rides a motorcycle, what more could a girl want!

Carter and Regan have met a few times, but sparks fly on New Year’s Eve.  What was supposed to be only a one-time thing turns into a great friendship.  Carter and Regan, who both hold all their secrets close and don’t let anyone in, finally found someone they can really open up too and share those secrets within each other.   Carter and Regan try to fight their feelings for each other, but that can only last so long.

I recommend Prima Donna to anyone who likes a sweet romance with substance.  Prima Donna can be read as a stand-alone, but I would recommend reading Plain Jayne first because Jayne and Nick show up a lot in Prima Donna. And for those who are Star Wars fans there are some very funny references to the movies, plus each chapter starts with a quote from Han Solo.

The Truth About Faking (The Truth, #1)
The Truth About Faking by Leigh Talbert Moore

4 Stars

"Ok. Well, you see Jason..."
Why is this so hard?
"I'm afraid things are changing between us. And that wasn't part of the deal. Remember?"
"So what do you want to do about it?
"I don't know," I say, rubbing my forehead.

Harley, is the Pastor's daughter. Harley is a sweet girl, the girl that can not make up her mind when she meets Jason. She isn't the type to do things that would get her in trouble or jeopardize her father's position in their church as being the Pastor. Harley has been in love with Trent, who is the handsome guy in high school that every girl wants. She's so obsessed with trying to get with Trent until some things come up that will change her feelings. I love Harley's character because it shows that anyone can be as vulnerable and will come up with crazy ideas to try to get what she wants. Harley is the girl who is not assertive, throughout this book she becomes a much stronger person overall.

Jason, I love Jason! Jason is the new guy that comes into town and enrolls in Harley's High School. I admire how Jason is sweet and kind to Harley. I almost kind of felt bad for Jason because he was almost like the third wheel when he agrees to pretend date Harley so Harley can make Trent realize that he should be dating her. Jason sits on the side, watching the girl that's meant to be with him, but watches Harley gives most of her attention to Trent until some things happen.

Trent, is like the popular guy in school that all girls want. Trent is dating Stephanie, who is the head cheerleader. Trent is a polite guy and is sweet. He does not come off as the typical "jock". That is the one thing I really enjoyed about Trent. Trent's secret will come off as a huge shock and is worth reading the whole book to find out what it is!

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. However, in the beginning I did kind of find it hard to get into at first because it was a little too much high school love triangle drama, but it changes real quick and the book does start to get even better as Jason and Harley begin to spend more time around each other fake dating. Don't let it fool you at first because I promise it gets real better quick. A lot of things start to happen also after they begin to fake date that will leave you guessing what is going to happen with her family, especially with her mom and father. There are cliff hangers for sure! I will say there is two huge surprises that you will find out towards the middle/end of this book!

My favorite part of the book I would have to say is the way all three characters interact with each and how they all find out things about each other that no one else knows. Somehow, all three connect on all different levels, but will make each character realize something good within themselves. It opens up all of their eyes and to see outside of the box. I feel all three character came into each other's lives for a purpose and that would be a good purpose. I could relate to Harley's character in many ways.

I would recommend this book!

Fireside

This Sunday I’m reviewing the Fireside series by Morgan Black.  This is a fun, fast, sexy read. Plus, the cover is really really hot!!!!!!

Book 1: Ablaze
Ablaze (Fireside, #1)

Ablaze was a hot little number! Ablaze is book one in a new series by Morgan Black, called Fireside. For being a very fast read, it got my attention and made me disappointed it was over because I wanted more.

Cheyenne is the daughter of a very rich rancher. She’s made plans to spend the weekend at her family’s cabin with the man her father wants her to marry. To get to the cabin, Cheyenne has to be escorted by new ranch hand, Luke. Cheyenne has had a little thing for Luke ever since he started working on the ranch. Knowing nothing can happen between them Cheyenne has kept her distance. Luke and Cheyenne arrive at the cabin before a strong snow hits, but by the time Luke goes to leave the storm has already hit and he’s going to have to stay. This is where things start to heat up!!!! ;)

For being pretty short, I really enjoyed Ablaze. It’s the perfect book to read on those cold winter nights.

Book 2: Flames
Flames (Fireside, #2)

Flames picks up right where Ablaze leaves off, the morning after Cheyenne and Luke’s night of passion. In the morning light, Cheyenne comes to realize that Luke is the man she has always dreamed of. To be together they will need to face a few people standing in their way, Collin, her boyfriend and Cheyenne’s standoffish father that is also Luke’s boss.

Flames is just as short and fast as Ablaze, with one very steamy barn scene!!

Book 3: Simmer
Simmer (Fireside #3)

Simmer is the last book in the Fireside series.  Simmer is just as fast and short as Ablaze and Flame. In Simmer Cheyenne and Luke face one big challenge if they want to be together, her father. Cheyenne’s father doesn’t believe in love, he believes in business and he thinks Cheyenne needs to marry a man that will benefit the Ranch.  Make a marriage a business deal. Cheyenne doesn’t want that, she wants to marry for love and the man she loves is Luke.

Simmer was good, but wrapped up too fast for my liking.  I felt the story was just getting started and then it was over, but that’s what you get with a 42 page book.  The Fireside series is good for anyone looking for a fast weekend read with some good steam.

You can also purchase all three books in one set.

Isla and the Happily Ever After

Isla and the Happily Ever After (Anna and the French Kiss, #3)

Published: 8/14/14
339 pages
Genre: Young Adult

4.5 Stars

I’ve been waiting to read Isla and the Happily Ever After for what feels like forever!  For understandable reasons the book was delayed, but finally 3 years later I got to read it and wasn’t disappointed.  In typical Stephanie Perkins fashion the story has a lyrical feel to the writing.  With the perfect flow and pacing to the story.  She also did an amazing job in describing the settings and surroundings, it was like she painted a picture of everything but with words.

I liked Isla, she was a nice, sweet and a great friend to someone that to others might not be easy to be friends with.  The one thing she didn’t have was confidence in herself, at first that didn’t bother me, but when she started letting it control her life, I started to get irritated.

Josh, swoon!!!  I loved him, he was kind of a bad boy but not.  Josh was a rule breaker, passionate, spontaneous and an artist.  He lived his life as a rule breaker as a way to kill time till he could fully pursue his passion for art.

Josh and Isla were the perfect pairing.  He brought out her adventurous side and she brought out a more responsible side to him.  They balanced each other.

I really enjoyed Isla and the Happily Ever After.  The first half of the book left me smiling, swooning and wishing that I was in Paris with my crush.  But the second half to me felt a little slower and maybe that’s because of events that happen that I wasn’t happy with.  Events that I’m not going to say because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. But I understand why they had to happen, it helped Isla and Josh grow up some.

Overall, I am very happy with how one of my favorite series ended.  I will miss Anna, Etienne, Lola, Cricket, Isla and Josh, they will all be memorable characters to me.

Book Synopsis:
From the glittering streets of Manhattan to the moonlit rooftops of Paris, falling in love is easy for hopeless dreamer Isla and introspective artist Josh. But as they begin their senior year in France, Isla and Josh are quickly forced to confront the heartbreaking reality that happily-ever-afters aren’t always forever.

Their romantic journey is skillfully intertwined with those of beloved couples Anna and Étienne and Lola and Cricket, whose paths are destined to collide in a sweeping finale certain to please fans old and new.

The Highlander's Heart

TGIF!!!!!!!!!

It's finally Friday and on this Friday I have a guest reviewer.  My good friend Jenn will be my reviewer today.

Here's a little about Jenn from Jenn!

My name is Jenn and I'm a stay-home-mom of two children;  one's  in junior high and the other is in elementary school.

You can usually find me with my eyes glued to my kindle... I rarely leave home with out it. Even though I love to read, I do balance my time between family, church, friends and reading. However, I have to admit, it can be a challenge for such an avid reader. ;)

The Highlander's Heart is set in late spring of 1355.  The story takes place between England and Scotland however, it primarily plays out in Scotland.

This story is laced with layers that make the story exciting with its twists and turns of:
Love, arranged marriages,  betrayals, lies & deceits, plots of kidnappings, murders, and over taking lands and castles. Loyalties, honor, doing what's right, changes of heart and what's right for the clan, will be called in to question.

Laird David Campbell, who is also a Knight, and Lady Isabelle Tynsdale are the main couple at the heart of the story. However, we are also treated to two other couples side-stories of love as well. Lady Cailtyn Campbell, David's sister, and her lady-in-waiting find love  in an unexpected plot with two brothers.

Can the heart have what the heart wants? Can true love actually come to light for these couples?   Or will duty to clans,  one's greed and another's order to be hung  be a deciding factor of all of their fates?

I really enjoyed this story by Amanda Forester. She took us back in time on  a twists of a ride. At no point was I bored with the story and the turns it took. I appreciated the fact that author never dwelled or dragged out one plot for too long before turning around the bend to another plot in the story. This keeps the reader on their toes and excited to see what happens next.

I loved Campbell's brothers. They added humor to the story. They were loyal and protective to a fault as was David. Mess with their clan or family and you'll wish you hadn't as they will find you.

David really tried to be honorable, and do what was right when it came to Lady Isabelle and his sister,  Lady Cait. He loves them both fiercely and he tried to make the right decisions as he felt were the correct ways to go.

Some of my favorite parts were:
1. The Minstrel

2. The Campbell brothers
3. The last chapter
4. The epilogue
5. Jokes about pickles
6. Isabelle. She always found trouble even when she meant well. David ends up labeling her a trouble maker. His feelings about that at the end make me smile.
7. David Campbell. He's alpha. He's a bit broody. He's loyal to a fault. He will love, protect and claim what's his when he has the right to.
8. Cait & Andrew
9. Different plots & POVs

Side Note: Book two can be read as a stand-alone. In no way did I feel I had missed anything by not reading book one. Book one is about a man named McLaren and Chaumont. Though McLaren is the Hero of book one, and Chaumont is his friend. They do show up in book two in small roles. You do not need to read book one to really know much about them. Their roles are not big enough to feel like you missed anything.
