Withering Hope by Layla Hagen ~ Review
Withering Hope by Layla Hagen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
So good!!! Gosh what an ending. I still have tears in my eyes.
I loved Withering Hope, it was so full of action, drama, adventure and romance. From start to finish this book had me hooked. It kind of reminded me of another favorite books of mine, On the Island but with a lot more mishaps.
Aimee is about a week away from marrying the man she has known all her life and has loved for most of it. In a last minute decision Aimee decide to take her fiancé private plane to Brazil, where the wedding will be held to help with last minute plans. Unfortunately, Aimee and pilot Tristian never make it, the plane goes down somewhere in the middle of the Amazon rain forest. With nothing but rainforest around for miles and miles, Aimee and Tristian try to survive while hoping to be rescued. Together they face all sorts of dangers in the Amazon, from animals, insects, lack of food and water to feelings for each other that they both believe they shouldn’t be feeling.
With all the dangers and suspense, I had a hard time putting the book down. Seriously, this book was good! For anyone looking for a break from some of the NA romances out there this is it. No college kids with horrible pasts, just two people trying to survive together. I recommend this to everyone.

NOWHERE BUT HERE Synopsis:
An unforgettable new series from acclaimed author Katie McGarry about taking risks, opening your heart and ending up in a place you never imagined possible
Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she's curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn't mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both.
Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They're the good guys. They protect people. They're…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club's most respected member—is in town, he's gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it's his shot at his dream. What he doesn't count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down.
No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.

Crushed by Lauren Layne ~ Review
Crushed by Lauren Layne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I was a little apprehensive to read it Crushed at first because of a few reviews I read stated there were few things lacking in the story that I usually like in the books I read, but I decide to read it anyways because I’m a big fan of Lauren Layne’s books. I’m really glad I did because I really enjoyed this story. I was sucked into the story right away and totally connected with the leading lady, Chloe. I could totally see myself being friends with a girl like her. She was sweet, but yet sassy and had be cracking up most of the book. Then there was Michael who was moody, stand-offish and a jerk at times, but I also couldn’t help feeling sorry for him. He had been hurt so much in the past that it was hard for him to believe that anything good would ever come his way. Some of my favorite scenes are when Michael aka “Beefcake” and Chloe are together. The way Chloe would push him to share himself with her and be friends were pretty comical at times.
For those who are fans of this series and Lauren’s you will love Crushed. This story might be light on steam, but it’s full of heart and great characters. I’m sad to have this series over because I’ve enjoyed each book, but I’m very happy with how it ended.
An ARC was kindly provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Worth the Risk by Claudia Connor ~ Review
5 Hurt, Pain and Love Stars
I first fell in love with The McKinney Brothers series with Worth the Fall, so I was really excited for another McKinney brother book. So when I got my hands on Worth the Risk I had to read it right away. I’m so happy I did because I loved it!!!
Worth the Risk is the story of younger McKinney brother, Stephen. Stephen has returned to his family a different man than he was five years ago. Five years ago, he lived through the most horrifying events of his life or has he. Still haunted by those events, Stephen consumes himself with work and women just to get by.
Hannah Walker is doing what she loves, running her own Hippotherapy farm, spending her days taking care of her beloved horses, helping children heal and find hope after an injury or traumatic event. Hannah lives a simple life, living alone on the farm that was left to her and spending time with her 3 over protective brothers. Hannah can relate to the children she helps, she too is still trying to heal from the horrific events of her past.
Stephen and Hannah’s paths cross randomly, but Stephen can tell that this is a girl he needs to see again. Not taking no for an answer Stephen convinces Hannah to meet him for a drink. Stepping out of the safe life Hannah has surrounded herself with she agrees. The start of their relationship is rocking, both not sure if they can or should get involved with the other. Trusting another person isn’t easy for either of them. Together Stephen and Hannah help each other overcome their past and learn to live again, but unfortunately life just isn’t that easy. Sometimes there is evil in people you never expected.
Once I started Worth the Risk I couldn’t put it down. The story had a nice mix of romance, pain and mystery. I couldn’t stop reading till I knew the full story of everything that was going on. It did take me a little bit to warm up to Stephen, he seemed so cold and angry, but once he started opening up more and we learned more about his past, I couldn’t help but fall for him. I loved Hannah from the beginning. She was sweet, naïve and innocent but yet strong, open and loving. As a reader, you couldn’t help but root for her.
I can’t wait for the next book in the McKinney Brother series and if we are really lucky maybe a spin off series with the Walker brothers.

The McKinney Brothers # 2
The McKinney Brothers # 2
By: Claudia Connor
Releasing Feb 3rd, 2015
Loveswept
Blurb
When
a McKinney brother falls in love, powerful emotion and overwhelming desire are
never far behind.
Two
hearts locked away . . . Hannah Walker spends her days coaching children
through injury and trauma, one therapeutic horseback ride at a time. She knows
all too well how violence can change a child and leave scars that never heal.
It’s easy for her to relate to the kids; what isn’t easy is the thought of
facing her own harrowing past.
Millionaire
playboy Stephen McKinney could use a little coaching himself. Five years ago he
encountered his most horrible nightmare—and the nightmare won. No matter what
he achieves, nothing can make up for that awful night . . . or so he believes.
Both
desperate for a second chance . . . Stephen is used to getting what he wants.
And he wants Hannah. So when she turns him down, he’s intrigued. What he
doesn’t know is that her secrets will lead him to a place he never wanted to go
again . . . to a side of himself he’s tried to forget . . . a side that would
scare Hannah away from ever loving him. Now his only chance to win her trust is
to bare his soul, risking everything he tried so hard to protect.
Excerpt:
Stephen McKinney watched her go, enjoying the way she moved in tan riding breeches that hugged her legs before they disappeared into tall, brown leather boots. He smiled, enjoying it a little longer. Golden-blond hair hung in a long, loose braid nearly to her waist. He had a flash of it tangled in his fingers, spread across silk sheets. Beautiful. And gone.
He loosened his tie and opened the top buttons of his dress shirt as he made his way through the express lane.
Still feeling a stab of disappointment, he exited alone. But the sun warmed him and, it seemed, blessed him, with extreme luck, because, as he stashed his items in the tiny trunk of his Porsche, he caught sight of Goldilocks pushing her cart straight toward him.
Grinning, he pretended to search his bags as she made a wide birth around him and stopped at the neighboring car—a black 4Runner that had seen better days. She rearranged some piles in the back, then stashed her groceries, not once looking at him.
While she delivered her cart to the holding pen, he closed his trunk and stepped around to lean against the side. He waited, watched, noting the deliberate way she walked. Tall and lean, though he still had a good six inches on her.
Still several feet away, she slowed, a touch of fight-or-flight in her eyes. She took a few more steps, maintaining a certain distance he felt compelled to close. But he stayed where he was, legs crossed in front of him, effectively blocking her way. “Have dinner with me.”
Golden eyes blinked up at him. Not the shade of the gold bars stacked inside the national reserve, more like the dark whiskey he’d drunk too much of not so long ago.
“What?”
“I’m asking you to dinner.”
She looked around again, seeming more concerned with the parking lot than with him. “Oh.”
Not exactly an answer and not the effect he usually had on women. “Stephen,” he said and offered his hand.
She hesitated so long, he thought she might leave him hanging. But finally, and with obvious reluctance, she slipped her small hand into his. He got a little buzz from the slide of her palm against his. He imagined the rest of her would be just as soft. “Your name?”
“Hannah.”
“So, Hannah,” he said, wanting to tug until she was flat up against him. “Will you please have dinner with me?”
“No.” She didn’t consider it for even a second and pulled her hand free.
“Ah.” He inclined his head toward her bags. “Chips. Beer. You have plans. Another night then.” He crossed his arms over his chest. “Give me your number and I’ll call you.”
“Yes. I mean . . . no.”
“Not sure?” Now he was getting somewhere. She rolled her bottom lip between her teeth. If she was playing hard to get, he could play too. And he would win.
“I mean I can’t give you my number and yes, I have plans.”
She flicked her eyes toward her driver’s-side door.
Nervous? It was broad daylight and not like they were standing in a darkened alley, but he straightened, gave her a bit more space. Though there was no way he was about to leave things like this, just watch her drive away. Not when he was dying to touch her, brush back the wayward strands feathering around that gorgeous face.
“Maybe just a drink then. No pressure.”
Seconds ticked by and she bit at her lip again, making him think about biting it too. She seemed to weigh her options, possibly deciding which was the better offer. If he’d been interested before, now he was damned intrigued.
“I guess I could meet you somewhere.”

Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan ~ Review
Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Archer’s Voice was amazing!!! I finished the book last night and still can’t get the story and the characters out of my head. They were captivating! I was looking for a book that would move me and I’ve seen Archer’s Voice around for a while, but never got around to picking it up. I’m so glad I finally decided to. I’m only disappointed I didn’t pick this up sooner. The book is really, really great! So if you can’t tell already, I loved Archer’s Voice.
Archer’s Voice is told in dual point a view, but most of the book is told from the pov of Bree Prescott. Bree arrives in small town Pelion, Maine not knowing anyone but ready to make a new start and leave her tragic past behind. Her first day around town she runs into the town loner and mute, Archer Hale. There is something very captivating about Archer to Bree. Going against how everyone sees him Bree sets out to get to know the real man behind all the rumors.
I couldn’t get enough of Bree and Archer’s story, especially Archer. Oh my god I melted for that man. He was so shy and innocent that you wanted to just wrap your arms around him and just hold him and take care of him, but he was also strong and smart and let’s not forget hot!! He could be the most perfectly broken man of my dream. I loved watching Bree and Archer’s friendship grow, it was like you were taking that journey with them.
I don’t want to get too much into the story because I want everyone to experience this story for themselves but please if you haven’t picked this up please do. It won’t disappoint.

New Year in Manhattan by Louise Bay ~ Review
New Year in Manhattan by Louise Bay
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
4 Perfect Ending Stars
**This review contains spoilers if you haven’t read The Empire State series.**
The Empire State Trilogy was a fun, HOT series and I’m kind of sad to see it over. New Year in Manhattan is the last book in the series and might have been my favorite out of the three.
New Year in Manhattan picks up where Autumn in London left off with Ethan headed back to New York and Anna still in London but both commented to each other. I just loved Ethan even more in this book; he was so sweet and caring towards Anna. For this being his first real relationship he was doing a wonderful job at it. There were a few moments where I think Anna was in her head too much and I wanted to smack some sense into her…. Hello! You have great guy!! But in the end, I was so happy how the series concluded. Louise Bay did a great job bringing these characters to life and making me fall in love with Mr. Ethan Scott. If you haven’t picked up The Empire State Trilogy yet, you must! The series is so good, hot and it’s a fast read, perfect for those winter nights.

Maya and the Tough Guy by Carter Ashby ~ Review
Maya And The Tough Guy by Carter Ashby
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
3.5 Stars
I have mixed feelings about Maya and The Tough Guy by Carter Ashby. I liked the story and I loved the main guy Jayce but I had major issues with the Maya.
So Maya and The Tough Guy is the story of Maya Bradley and Jayce Gilmore. Growing up they both had a violent childhood. Unfortunately for Maya that violence continued into her marriage. Trying to start a new life Maya is divorcing her husband and has moved herself and two kids into her friends Zoey houses. To help support her new life, Maya takes a job at a local bar working for Jayce Gilmore.
Jayce has been in love with Maya since he was young. He would do whatever he could to help her which he does by giving her a job at his bar. Maya is scared and timid around most guys and especially Jayce. To Maya he looks like a violent man and that is something she wants nothing to do with anymore, but she slowly starts to realize that Jayce is none of the things she’s been scared of. He would do anything just to be able to be near her even if she doesn’t love him in return.
What I did love about this book was Jayce. The man would walk through fire to protect Maya and her kids and he showed it every chance he got. I also loved seeing Maya growing a backbone and start standing up for herself. It made me want to yell “you go girl”. Lol But even thought I loved Maya’s growth buy she also annoyed me. I understand that she is just coming out of a very bad situation and the last thing she needs is to start is a relationship, but I felt that she led Jayce on by entering into a sexual relationship with him. Then for her to just realize all of a sudden that she was in love with right at the end just didn’t seem believable to me. There was nothing stated as to what made her decide she was in love with him now after the countless times he showed her that he loved her and would take care of her.
Overall Maya and the Tough Guy was a good story and I’m sure a lot more people will enjoy this story more than I did and will be able to overlook the problems I couldn’t.

A.L. Jackson is the New York Times bestselling author of Take This Regret and Lost to You, as well as other contemporary romance titles, including Come to Me Quietly, Come to Me Softly, Pulled, When We Collide, and If Forever Comes.
She first found a love for writing during her days as a young mother and college student. She filled the journals she carried with short stories and poems used as an emotional outlet for the difficulties and joys she found in day-to-day life.
Years later, she shared a short story she’d been working on with her two closest friends and, with their encouragement, this story became her first full length novel. A.L. now spends her days writing in Southern Arizona where she lives with her husband and three children. Her favorite pastime is spending time with the ones she loves.
