Dirty Little Tricks by Clare James

Dirty Little Tricks (Quick and Dirty, #2)

4 Stars

I was so excited when I got a chance to read Dirty Little Tricks early. I’ve loved Stevie and Gabe since I first met them in Dirty Little Lies, I so was happy their story was continuing.

Dirty Little Tricks picks up with Stevie and Gabe more settled in their relationship. Both have been extremely busy with work that they haven’t had much time for each other. Stevie decides it's time to spice up their love life and in normal Stevie fashion things don’t work out exactly like she plans, which causes some really funny scenes. As a last resort Stevie plans for her and Gabe to return to Club Venus where everything started for them. Gabe tries to talk Stevie out of this idea because the night she wants to go is on Halloween night, which is when the club is its busiest and kinkiest. As I said before, things don’t work out as Stevie had planned, even at Club Venus.

I was a little nervous going into Dirty Little Tricks because I was worried it was just going to be full of unnecessary drama but it wasn’t. Like a lot of couples, life sometimes gets in the way of time for each other, but instead of fighting about it Stevie and Gabe find a way back to each other.

Excerpt

“All right, honest conversation,” Emma said, after a moment that was quiet but rife with tension.  “Yes.  I wasflirting with you in the store--but only because I never thought I’d see you again.”

“You never wanted to see me again?  Damn, Emma!”

“No, no,” she clarified, rapidly shaking her head, “this is coming out wrong.  I just meant I thought you were a random handsome guy with a hot body, end of story.”  Every male impulse in him intensified when he heard those words. Handsome?  Hot body?  This was definitely going to happen.  “I never knew you’d end up working at my house…and driving me crazy everyday,” Emma mumbled partly under her breath.

Still, Matt heard every word.  And he was itching to grab her.

He stepped closer--close enough for their bodies to touch.  Finally His cock stiffened as his chest grazed Emma’s back.  “Driving you crazy?” Matt repeated, bringing his mouth closer to her ear.  “Here I thought I was being nice all this time.”

She let out an unsteady breath.  “You know what I mean.”

“No,” he said, his voice low and urgent as his hands slid onto her waist.  “Explain it to me.”

Already he felt the sexual tension burning between them; what would it be like once he kissed her?  She had to feel it, too.  Though she still stubbornly had her back to him, she hadn’t moved away, not even a centimeter.

When she spoke, her voice was a breathy sort of whisper that sounded as aroused as he felt.  “I admit I find you…attractive…”

“Mmm-hmm,” he murmured, tugging her lower body against his as he leaned down to nuzzle her neck.

Softly, Emma gasped, before continuing, “But…since I’m moving in just a couple weeks, there’s no point to…anything…”  She let out a tiny little moan when Matt grazed her neck with his teeth.  “I-I hope you understand.”

“I understand perfectly,” he said, his mouth against her ear.  “You’re attracted to me,” he recapped, skipping the rest of what she’d said.

“But--”

“And I’m deeply attracted to you.”  He slid a hand into her hair and angled her head toward him, urging her to turn around.

“Matt, please…” she implored, half-turned, her greenish eyes looking almost troubled as she gazed up into his face.

Pausing, he tried to regain his sanity.  Obviously he’d never want to push her into something she didn’t want.  “Are you saying you don’t want me to kiss you right now?” he asked.

“What I want doesn’t matter.”

“Like hell it doesn’t,” he nearly snapped.  Why was she making this so complicated?

“It’s part of being an adult,” Emma said, casting her eyes down, her voice faint.  “We can’t always have what we want.  That’s life.”

“Believe me, I know that,” Matt told her.  “If I could have what I want, then we wouldn’t be having this conversation--I would’ve been kissing you all this time.  I would grab you and pull you onto my lap…”  With her eyes widening, Emma’s mouth fell open, as Matt dipped his head lower and finished, “If I could have what I want, then I’d already be running my hands inside your panties right now.”

Matt…” she whispered helplessly, wetting her lips as her face rose to meet his…

Bittersweet by Sunday James

Bittersweet

3.5 Stars

I enjoyed Bittersweet by Sunday James. The story line was different and I really like the main character Cathy Johnson; she was a strong independent girl.  Just how I like the leading ladies to be.

Bittersweet is the story of Cathy Johnson, small town waitress working at her family's diner.  Everything in her little town changes when a teen TV show is planning to start filming their show in her town.  That’s when she meets extremely good looking Greg Moran. Cathy is very attracted to Greg but he keeps putting her at arm’s length and then bringing her back in again.  In my opinion giving the poor some hard core mixed signals.

The reason I gave Bittersweet 3.5 stars is because I became a little annoyed with Greg, how he could be hot and cold towards Cathy and how cryptic he could be about some things.  I just thought she deserved better than what he was giving her at the times.

Bittersweet does end in a to be continued way, so I’m definitely looking forward to how Cathy and Greg’s story will continue.

Until the End by Abbi Glines

We would love for you to join us in a release week event for UNTIL THE END by New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Abbi Glines from October 28-November 4, 2014!

TitleUntil The End (Sea Breeze #9)
Author: Abbi Glines
Publisher: Simon Pulse (October 28, 2014)

The backstory that fans have been clamoring for—how Rock and Trisha fell in love—is the final installment in the Sea Breeze series from New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines. And don’t miss the sizzling Epilogue, where Abbi wraps up all the Sea Breeze couples’ stories!

Trisha Corbin always knew how to hide a bruise. With her momma’s boyfriends unable to keep their hands off of her, she had no choice. And as long as it meant the guys wouldn’t go near her little brother, Krit, it was worth it. But her days of dreaming that Prince Charming would ever come rescue her are far, far in the past.

Rock Taylor always had a plan. Through football, he would rise above the life he was born into. A full ride to play for a major college team was within his reach—assuming he didn’t let anything get in his way. But scoring a date with the hottest girl in Sea Breeze was proving harder than expected. Trisha Corbin was every man’s walking fantasy, and she wouldn’t even glance his way.

When Rock finally does get Trisha in his truck, it isn’t for a date. It’s because he picks her up on the side of the road, beaten and bruised and walking to the local hospital. Before Rock knows it, football is no longer his life. Trisha Corbin is. And he’ll do anything to save her. And keep her.

In addition to Rock and Trisha’s love story, this special novel contains the wrap-up stories of all your favorite Sea Breeze couples: Sadie and Jax, Marcus and Low, Cage and Eva, Preston and Amanda, Jess and Jason, Krit and Blythe, and Dewayne and Sienna.

Excerpt 3-Trisha, The Present
Once we had both boys tucked in we cut the lights and closed the door.
Rock stood there with his hand on the doorknob once we were in the hallway. “That never gets old,” he said in a whisper.
He didn’t have to explain. I understood. Two years ago we were told that we could never have children. It was something we both wanted. A family. We wanted to create a world we ourselves were cheated of.  We wanted to have a house full of love and safety. One we could give to kids the way we had always dreamed of having ourselves.
We had that now. We were not only able to have a family filled with all those things we longed for, but we were able to give it to kids that were living a life of hell much like the one we had been raised in. They were here now, though, and they were ours. And never again would they suffer or fear or go hungry. We would love them always.
“We’re very blessed,” I agreed quietly.
Rock smiled at me. “Yeah, we are.”

After the Pain by Gia Riley

After the Pain (Book #2)

3 Stars

This review may contain spoilers if you haven’t read Before the Pain.

After the Pain continues Hallie's story from Before the Pain. This is her journey of recovering from her tragic loss and finding that there is still love out there.

I liked After the Pain but didn’t enjoy it as much as I did Before the Pain. Hallie irritated me too much throughout the book, she kind of felt like a different character to me at times. She was keeping secrets and hiding stuff from Sean that caused drama. To me what she was doing just didn’t seem worth it. I will say the steam in this book was definitely amped up from the previous book. Hallie and Sean couldn’t keep their hands off each other. Another thing that I really liked about After the Pain was the bit of mystery mixed into the story; it kept the reader guessing who could be messing with them.

After the Pain was a good story and I was happy to see Hallie get her happily ever after but for me the secrets and drama was the only thing that took the enjoyment away from the story for me.

Between the Pain by Gia Riley

Between the Pain (The Reflection Series, #1)

4 Stars

Between the Pain was kind of an emotional read for me. I was happy, then sad and then happy again. I even shaded a tear or two, but I really enjoyed it. I was definitely sucked into the story right from the beginning. At first I was a little upset thinking this might end up being a love triangle, which I’m not a fan of but so everyone know it really isn’t.

Hallie’s Dawson love life has definitely been lacking, but when she starts a new nursing job in the ER, she catches the eye for two very delicious guys, Ryan a fellow nurse and Sean a therapist at the hospital. The connection between Ryan and Hallie is instant and strong. The two have a world win romance and fall for each other hard.

I’m not going to go much more into the story because I want other reader’s experiences Hallie story and journey for themselves. The story does wrap up nicely but there is a sequel to Between the Pain called After the Pain which continues Hallie story and really does complete her journey.
